I like keeping up with the news. Now, I can’t remember the last time I bought a newspaper or a magazine. Over the years I’ve gotten into the habit of getting all my news online. I have a routine that I go through daily that I thought I would share with you.

I start off my day by reading Dilbert, which gets emailed to me every day. I’m a huge fan of Scott Adam’s work and he always give me good chuckle.

After getting breakfast ready, I catch up with general news from Huffington Post, some techy news from GigaOm and some gadget news from Engadget. I used to be a fan of Digg too, but I’ve found that especially the last 6 months that the quality of their links have gone downhill and I don’t even bother looking at the site anymore.

I’m pretty good at scanning a web page and then reading the articles that look interesting.

I’ve recently starting reading Hacker News too. They’ve got lots of interesting links to sites about startups and software development. I think this site is going to become one of my favorites.

Then I’m focused on getting work done until lunch time.

After lunch, I like to look at Google News. For a bit of fun, I also take a look at BuzzFeed. I’m not really into any celebrity chatter but the site does have some really weird stuff now and then.

At the end of a day’s work, I like to catch up with news on Twitter using the Kiwi desktop client. I don’t follow a lot of people, but most of them report on technology and startups. I don’t have many followers, although recently I’ve gotten several but I’m not sure why they are following me since they don’t look like people who I would follow myself. Not sure if I’m breaking some rules of etiquette by not following them too.

I also like to read the articles by Paul Graham. Very inspirational and thought-provoking stuff from a guy who has lots of startup experience.

My weekend routine is very similar but I cut down on the techy stuff and spend time on the New York Times (I prefer their Chrome web app to their normal web site). I like their Most Emailed section to catch up with recent hot topics.

On my mobile phone (Motorola Atrix) I have Android apps for Google News, Bloomberg and the New York Times.

A habit I’ve gotten into relatively recently is to tweet any interesting news or sites that I find. I’m thinking I might be able to build up a Twitter following that might be useful for the marketing of the apps we are working on.

I’m so stuck in my online habits that I don’t know what I would do without an internet connection.
